Assam: Case against ASP for bribe demand | Guwahati News

Representative image GUWAHATI: Assam Police have registered a suo moto case against an additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Bongaigaon district for allegedly demanding a bribe from a jailed businessman. Bongaigaon SP Swapnaneel Deka told TOI that police are investigating the case after an alleged audio clip surfaced on the local media a couple of days ago in which ASP Pankaj Kumar Kakati was heard demanding money from businessman Abdul Kader in lieu of extending a favour to him. “We have lodged a case against the ASP under Section 384 (extortion) and Section 511 of the IPC. The audio clip was recorded in February or March by Kader, a coal trader, after a case was registered against him in connection with some illegal business activities,” he said. Kakati, an Assam Police Service officer, had allegedly sought a bribe to settle the case in favour of Kader, the SP said.

EC holds transfer of 18 police officers in Assam By IANS|   Published: 28th February 2021 4:32 am IST New Delhi, Feb 27 : The Election Commission on Saturday kept the transfer orders of 12 Indian Police Service (IPS) and six Assam Police Service (APS) officers on “abeyance” in the poll-bound Assam considering impostition of Model Code of Conduct in the state. Citing the provisions of Model Code of Conduct which imposes total ban on the transfers or postings of all officers connected with conduct of elections, the Commission said it “therefore decided to keep the transfer or posting of these police officers in abeyance till further orders”.
