BJP s Vision Document 2016-2025 had promised to follow in letter and spirit the Assam Accord with March 25, 1971 as the cut off date to distinguish between illegal migrants and citizens of the state, Assam Congress President Ripun Bora said at a press conference here. The Accord made it clear that those who came to the state after 1971 will be considered illegal migrants but by enacting the CAA, BJP has allowed Bangladeshis to come to India till December 31, 2014 (the cut off date). It has given the Bangladehis a red carpet welcome, he said.

GUWAHATI: Assam Congress on Wednesday called all its MPs and MLAs for a closed-door meeting here to chalk out the party’s strategy to counter BJP in the 2021 Assam elections amid reports that some MLAs and senior party leaders may join the saffron party when Union home minister Amit Shah visits Assam on December 26.
Reports are doing the rounds that two MLAs from upper Assam constituencies of Golaghat and Sarupathar Ajanta Neog and Roselina Tirkey, respectively will join BJP soon. Neog, a powerful Congress leader from the upper Assam, did not attend the four-hour meeting held in a city hotel.
