Senior Congress leaders address a press conference after the four-hour meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday
GUWAHATI: Assam Congress on Wednesday called all its MPs and MLAs for a closed-door meeting here to chalk out the party’s strategy to counter BJP in the 2021 Assam elections amid reports that some MLAs and senior party leaders may join the saffron party when Union home minister Amit Shah visits Assam on December 26.
Reports are doing the rounds that two MLAs from upper Assam constituencies of Golaghat and Sarupathar — Ajanta Neog and Roselina Tirkey, respectively — will join BJP soon. Neog, a powerful Congress leader from the upper Assam, did not attend the four-hour meeting held in a city hotel.
