Himanta Biswa Sarma was on Monday sworn in as the 15th chief minister of Assam. Sarma said dealing with the Covid pandemic, fulfilling the election promises which include providing an error-free National Register of Citizens (
NRC), micro finance loan waiver and mitigating the impact of floods are the priorities of his government.
He also appealed to insurgent outfits, including the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), to eschew violence and come to the negotiating table.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday distributed portfolios to 13 members of his cabinet, a day after the new council of ministers were sworn in. With Ajanta Neog taking charge of the finance department, the state got its first woman finance minister.

Neog was a minister in Congress government and before assembly polls joined BJP and won from Golaghat seat. In the previous government Sarma held the education, health, finance and PWD department.
