CCCTC accepting reservations for Sophomore Showcase | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 23, 2021 The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center will be hosting the second of two Sophomore Showcase Nights April 29. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be two sessions: 6 to 7 pm. and 7 to 8 p.m. Space is limited to 50 visitors for each session, so reservations are required. For reservations call Cindy Pugh at 330-424-9561 Ext. 0. Current sophomores in Columbiana County and a parent or guardian are invited for a night full of information and tours of the high school programs at the CCCTC. During the program, students and parents will see displays of the programs and academics, meet the lab and academic instructors, visit labs and classrooms where an overview of the programs and academic offerings will be given and any questions can be answered, and tour the building and labs of interest. Help signing up for a program will be available during the evening.

Patrol reminds drivers to keep eyes, focus on the road | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 22, 2021 April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to keep their eyes and their focus on the roadway while driving. Over the last five years, 212 people lost their lives as a result of distracted driving. During this same timeframe, distracted driving led to 66,181 crashes in Ohio. Statistics show that male drivers accounted for 55 percent of all distracted driving crashes and 64 percent of the related fatal crashes. Nearly one in three distracted drivers were between the ages of 16 and 24 years old. Because the drivers are reluctant to admit to distracted driving, the actual number of distracted driving crashes, injuries and deaths are believed to be significantly higher.

Lynch Combined 4-H Club Meeting: April 11, 2021 A regular meeting was held at the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene. Attendance was taken by asking members what their favorite color is. There were 9 members present; 6 Cloverbuds present; 2 advisors present; and 5 parents present. The pledge to the American flag was led by member, Grady Hartline. Cloverbud, Audrey Goeller, led the 4-H pledge. Vice President, Leigha Hendershot, led the meeting. Mattie Sandford gave her Health Report. She said that optimistic people live longer and have lower blood pressure. Gracie Morrie gave her health report by telling that right-handed people live on average 9 years longer than left handed people. Audrey Goeller gave her Inspiration Report. She encouraged members to be yourself. You are the best person, so you do not need to change.

Earth Day high school essay contest deadline nears | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 22, 2021 Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action is sponsoring a high school Earth Day essay contest during the month of April for youth in grades nine through twelve attending school or homeschooling in the region. Submissions must be received by April 30. The essay contest requires two steps. First, students will complete an online, interactive carbon footprint calculator activity, with specific instructions provided. Second, students will respond to the essay prompt, which references the activity. Teachers are invited to use the online activity and writing prompt in their classrooms this April leading up to Earth Day. Students can also enter independently. A panel of MOVCA members will award prizes to the top three essay submissions, with the first prize amount of a $100 Grand Central Mall gift card.
