And as an eviction moratorium, which has acted as a safety net for renters during the coronavirus pandemic, comes to end, housing advocates in Acadiana are bracing for an uptick in need.
The CDC’s eviction moratorium is set to expire on July 31, which means tenants can be evicted for failure to pay rent.

Nearly 600 households experiencing homelessness were temporarily housed in hotels and motels when temperatures plunged below freezing last week, according to data from the Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness and Housing.
During a presentation for the organization s bi-monthly general meeting, ARCH Executive Director Leigh Rachal said that 579 households totaling 780 individuals were housed in hotels and motels during the freeze. More than two-thirds of these individuals were classified as literally homeless, meaning they do not have a regular place to stay.
