AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) Officials report a Staunton man was taken into custody on Friday, April 2, after an online investigation that took place over the course of a week.
According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, an investigator was conducting online investigations into the solicitations of minor children by posing as a teenage girl.
Officials say after allegedly sending numerous explicit messages, the Staunton man agreed to meet the fictitious teen and was taken into custody by investigators on Friday.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office sent out a press release a short time ago. It said, “Ms. Ritchie has been safely located.” No other information was provided.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - The Augusta County Sheriffâs Office was called to Baker Ln. around 9:00 Friday night for a report of a stabbing.
Deputies report that a 19-year-old woman had been stabbed in the back, but she left the scene to get medical treatment. 21-year-old Dakota Clements of Waynesboro was named as the suspect.
Clements was found on Baker Ln. and taken into custody without incident. Heâs been charged with attempted malicious wounding, and three outstanding warrants for contempt of court were also served. HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - For the third year in a row, the Augusta County Sheriffâs Office made the holidays a bit more special for some local children.
âThis is a way for us to give back to the community,â Sheriff Donald Smith said. âFor some of these children this is probably the only gift that theyâll get.â
Teaming up with the Augusta County Fire and Rescue and the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, 87 bicycles were delivered to kids in the community on Christmas Eve.
