With her brother s name pinned to the back of her T-shirt, Nancy Austin did a few jumping jacks to warm up before climbing 2,626 steps at Comerica Park on Sunday.
Austin, who s a physical education teacher at Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School, was one of hundreds to participate Sunday in the annual American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb. It s the first time the event has been held at the park, and the climb raises awareness and fundraises for lung disease education and clean air advocacy.
That s important to Austin, whose brother is battling stage 3 lung cancer. It s emotional, there s so much uncertainty day to day, Austin said.
Ford Fireworks going ahead as televised event again this year
The Ford Fireworks will be taking place on June 28, but like last year, there will be no opportunity to watch them in person.

The annual fireworks show over the Detroit River will once again be a televised-only event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Officially named the 2021 Ford Fireworks, the show will take place on Monday, June 28 and will be televised on WDIV Local 4 (Cable 5 in Windsor).

The fireworks show will not take place in its traditional location on the Detroit River in the downtown areas of both cities, but instead at another location so viewers don’t try and gather on the shores.
