Fife Housing Group provides Christmas cheer to local charities

FIFE Housing Group has donated a further £5,000 to support local charities this Christmas providing assistance to people most in need within their local communities. West Fife recipients include Dunfermline Foodbank, which has been topped up with further donations from the housing association after help at the start of the pandemic. Additional donations have also been made to the Dunfermline Children’s Clothing Bank and Fife Gingerbread, whose clients would usually have benefited from their ‘Give a kid a coat’ campaign. It takes the total sum donated by the organisation this year to £9,000. Chief executive Nicki Donaldson said: “With the impact of coronavirus continuing to reverberate around the world, a growing number of families throughout Fife are struggling to make ends meet and are being forced to turn to foodbanks and other charities for essential, everyday items.

4000 new homes planned for Fife in ambitious blueprint

Three-tenths of the homes will also be tailored to specific needs such as wheelchair users and those with complex care requirements. Councillor Judy Hamilton, who chairs Fife Housing Partnership and is also convener of Fife Council s community and housing services sub-committee, welcomed the blueprint. She said it was very, very ambitious - one of the most ambitious in Scotland . Estimates produced by Fife Council show that the Kingdom requires an average of 1,146 new homes to be built every single year to meet demand for good quality housing, more than half of which needs to be considered affordable . The Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Central area is judged to be the most in need of affordable housing in Fife, followed by Dunfermline and the West.
