FAIRMONT â Your public library is open.
Thatâs what the sign reads that boasts that the Marion County Public Library is open to the public and has all their resources readily available. Larissa Cason, director of the Marion County Public Library System, said June 1 last year, the library started providing curbside pickup amid the pandemic and June 29 the doors reopened to the public. However, many residents still believe the library is closed.
Public Works facility
The Fairmont City Council remains divided on the need for a new Public Works Building. Why? At $167 per square foot for a 50 year building, that is by far the best option. The current building desparately needs replaced. This has been six years in planning and a previous council has already approved it.
A $5 million building makes no sense when you have to build another building for $2-3 million to house all the equipment. That puts the cost near $8 million with a pole-frame garage that is a 20-30 year building, whereas a steel-frame building will last for 50-60 years. A new building is clearly the best option moving forward.

FAIRMONT â In an attempt to end confusion regarding UTV regulations, Fairmont City Council held a work session to discuss the issue.
Councilor Josh Rice said residents want to know if UTV are allowed on state roads in Fairmont. In order for UTV vehicles to operate on the road they must comply with all things a car would need to be road friendly, he said.

FAIRMONT– The Fairmont City Council discussed the direction of the new Community Center at their work session on Monday night. This has been a five-year project that has seen different steps taken along the timeline.
There was a presentation that consisted of key dates for the Community Center project. In June of 2016, a feasibility study was done to create the process of constructing a new Community Center. In November of 2016, there was a question on the ballot that stated, shall the City of Fairmont be authorized to impose a local option sales tax of one-half of one percent (1/2%) for 25 years or until $15,000,000 in revenues have been generated for the purpose of funding recreational amenities, trails, and/or a Fairmont Community Center? The vote was approved.
