Feb 12, 2021 FAIRMONT Robert “Bob” Barke passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Funeral services for Bob will be held at a later date. Bob was born Oct. 20, 1928, the youngest son of Adolph and Sarah Barke. He graduated from Fairmont High School and spent four years in the U.S. Army National Guard, with 16 months on active duty during the Korean Conflict. Bob married Lavonne “Vonnie” Milbrandt on June 27, 1953. He farmed in Rutland Township prior to acting as general manager of C. H. Gould Company from 1962 through 1974. Bob then returned to farming again before retiring in 1997. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, golf, helping others and spending time with family. Bob was active in the Martin County Farm Bureau, St. Johns UCC, and Fairmont Chamber of Commerce. Feb 2, 2021 FAIRMONT Jack Noble Mackey, age 78, of Fairmont, Minn., passed away Friday morning, Jan. 29, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn. Services for Jack will be at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Jack was born June 7, 1942, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Noble) Mackey. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1960 and attended Thief River Falls Vocational School to study aircraft mechanics. In April 1967, Jack and Mary Ellen Mackeben were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They shared 22 years together until her passing in November of 1988.

Jan 29, 2021 John Paul Lynch, Sr., 70, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23. at Berkeley Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born March 7, 1950 in Fairmont, WV, son of the late John E. Lynch and Lorena Steele Lynch. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary Moore Lynch; his brother George Allen Lynch and wife, Carol; his three sons, J.P. Jr. and wife, Dawn; Eric Scott and wife, Kristin; and Ryan Patrick and wife, Stephanie. He is also survived by seven grandchildren- Madison, Anna. Sofia, Emma, Juliana, Aidan, and Teagan, and two nieces, Sabrina Lynch and Rachel Ramage. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and Fairmont State College. For eight years, he was the Director of Bands at Sistersville High School in Sistersville, WV before coming to Martinsburg High School as the Director of Bands. bwohlrabe@fairmontsentinel.com FAIRMONT The Fairmont School Board had a lengthy discussion Tuesday about whether or not to bring high school students back to school full-time next week. High School students are currently in a hybrid model, with half of the student body attending school in person during the first two days of the week and the other half attending school in person the last two days of the week. On Wednesdays, the entire student body does distance learning. The elementary students all came back to school in person last week. “We have approximately 38 students who have chosen to do distance learning but otherwise the vast majority of elementary students have come back in person,” Fairmont Area Superintendent Joe Brown said.

KELLEY / STAFF Ohio children who normally get free or reduced-price lunches at school, but have been learning remotely, will soon receive additional food benefits, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer plan (P-EBT) will retroactively pay $5.86 per qualified child, per school day that the child was learning remotely, according to ODJFS. Benefits from remote learning in October and November will be delivered by early to mid-February. Later benefits will be delivered on a two-month lag (December benefits by the end of February; January benefits by the end of March, etc.)
