Harrisburg, PA Today, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn and Deputy Secretary John Norbeck joined the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy (NPC) and local supporters for a dedication ceremony at the Phelps Mills Canoe Launch on Pine Creek in the Tiadaghton State Forest in Clinton County.
“The story of the Phelps Mills Canoe Launch is a testament to the power of collaboration and the impact it can have providing recreational opportunities in our communities,” Dunn said. “Thank you to NPC, its volunteers, George and Shirley Durrwachter, and everyone who helped make this project a reality.”

Not every county can say that a building has been part of their community for 132 years. The Phelps Mill near Underwood in Otter Tail County ran, grinding wheat into flour, from 1889 to 1931.
To show off the special parts of Otter Tail County during the 2021 Minnesota Governor s Fishing Opener, tours were offered of the Phelps Mill, now part of a county park at 29035 County Highway 45, Underwood, on Friday, May 14.

If you’re an angler looking to part waters for the opener, May 15, you’d be hard pressed to find a better batch of waters than the 1,000-plus Otter Tail County calls their own.

Even as the state chugs ahead in expanding high-speed internet access, broadband remains a source of frustration in many rural areas.
At their March 9 meeting, Otter Tail County commissioners agreed to pay $30,000 for a two-year position to focus on expanding broadband access.
It’s through an organization called Lead for Minnesota, which seeks to supply leaders age 21 to 30 to help rural communities with a variety of issues. In this case, the issue is broadband access, with Land O’ Lakes sharing the cost to place four of these leaders, called fellows, throughout Minnesota.
