Fatah, Hamas Engaging in Incitement to Stoke Jerusalem Violence: Watchdog Groups

The statement appeared on the Facebook pages of several top Fatah officials. It was also disseminated by WAFA, the PA’s official news agency, and its official daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), found that incitement to mass violence has not been confined to the Palestinians, but has taken on an international dimension. On Friday, the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), which is financially supported by Qatar and Turkey, issued a sermon that quoted an antisemitic passage from the Quran that states, “Judgement Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Jews will hide behind trees and stones.” It added, “The young jihad fighters of Palestine are the best evidence of this, for they have given the Jews a taste of dread and rocked [the foundations of] their entity [the State of Israel] with their heroic jihad operations.”

Abbas Wants More Blood, Calls for Violent Uprising in Jerusalem

May 9, 2021 “After canceling the Palestinian elections because his Fatah party faced certain defeat, Abbas was at his lowest popularity ever… He was desperate to redirect Palestinian wrath from him to Israel,” explains PMW director Itamar Marcus. Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party has called for increased violence and riots in Jerusalem, following clashes on Saturday night which left 205 Palestinians and 17 police officers injured. In a widely publicized statement, the Fatah’s Central Committee announced: “The Fatah Movement with all its elements and leadership calls to continue this uprising…  Fatah calls on everyone to raise the level of confrontation in the coming days and hours in the Palestinian lands, the points of friction, and the settlers’ roads.”

Photo by Thaer Ganaim Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ April 30 decision to postpone elections, which would have been the first in 15 years, will deepen Palestinian division and could potentially signal the collapse of the Fatah movement, at least in its current form.  Unlike the last Palestinian parliamentary elections in 2006, the big story, this time, was not the Fatah-Hamas rivalry. Many rounds of talks in recent months between representatives of Palestine’s two largest political parties had already sorted out much of the details regarding the now-canceled elections, which were scheduled to begin on May 22.

Palestine s Moment of Reckoning: On Abbas Dangerous Decision to Postpone Elections

by Ramzy Baroud / May 5th, 2021 The decision on April 30 by Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, to ‘postpone’ Palestinian elections, which would have been the first in 15 years, will deepen Palestinian division and could, potentially, signal the collapse of the Fatah Movement, at least in its current form. Unlike the last Palestinian parliamentary elections in 2006, the big story this time was not the Fatah-Hamas rivalry. Many rounds of talks in recent months between representatives of Palestine’s two largest political parties had already sorted out much of the details regarding the now-canceled elections, which were scheduled to begin on May 22. Both Fatah and Hamas have much to gain from the elections; the former relished the opportunity to restore its long-dissipated legitimacy as it has ruled over occupied Palestinians, through its dominance of the Palestinian Authority, with no democratic mandate whatsoever; Hamas, on the other hand, was desperate to break

JNS.org – A branch of Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction on Sunday called on Palestinians to delete security camera footage to thwart attempts by Israeli forces to apprehend those responsible for the drive-by shooting in Samaria earlier that day. According to the non-profit Israeli research institute Palestinian Media Watch, in a post on its official Facebook page within hours of the attack, Fatah’s Nablus branch wrote: “Our lauded people, honored members of our people, we call on you to get rid of the contents that were stored in the [security] cameras of your homes or your businesses today, and not to transfer any media content among yourselves that the occupation [i.e., Israel] is spreading.”
