Covid-19: South Africa records 2,893 new cases and 30 deaths

The Health Department says a total number of 642 946 citizens have been vaccinated to date.
The Health Department says it has recorded 2,893 infections in the last 24 hours pushing the country s known caseload to 1,635,405.
Thirty more people have passed away after contracting the coronavirus bringing the national death toll to 55,802 since the beginning of the pandemic.

South Africa has recorded 2 894 new Covid-19 infections and 30 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the official death toll to 55 802.
According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Sunday, the country recorded a total of 1 635 465 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The total number of people vaccinated is 647 983, with 5 037 vaccine shots administered in the last 24-hour cycle. Of the total number of vaccinations, 167 318 were administered using the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine under phase two of the national vaccination rollout.
âInfection numbers have started rising again and the pandemic will continue to pose risks well into 2022, as [the] vaccine rollout is proceeding slowly,â Fitch says in its latest rating report.
It points out that South Africa has effectively administered around 0.9 doses per 100 of the population as at mid-May.
In Health Minister Zweli Mkhizeâs daily Covid-19 update on Tuesday night, he noted that South Africa had administered 651Â 628 Covid-19 vaccines.

The Health Department says 642,382 vaccines have been administered to date.
The Health Department says it has recorded 3,332 infections in the last 24 hours pushing the country s known caseload to 1,628,335.
One hundred and fifty-one more people have passed away after contracting the coronavirus bringing the national death toll to 55,719 since the beginning of the pandemic.
South Africa s recovery rate stands at 94,2% which means that 1,534,350 people have recuperated from the virus.
On the vaccine front, 642,382 people have received the jab.
