Goatocado restaurant founder dishes up new pizza joint in Scott’s Addition

A co-founder of Goatocado restaurant in the Fan has hopped into Scott’s Addition with a new pizzeria.
Ian Newell opened Red Goat Pizza earlier this month at 2930 W. Broad St., Suite C.
Red Goat Pizza’s building is connected to Three Notch’d Brewing Co., Richmond Wine Station and Gather on West Broad Street, but the pizzeria’s door faces Altamont Avenue.
The space was formerly home to People’s Pie, which operated there from early 2020 until February. People’s Pie is continuing to offer its Detroit-style pies as a pop-up around town.

Not one to let the disaster that was 2020 put the kibosh on her dream of opening a kosher bakery in Richmond, Claudia Strobing is now Carytown-bound.
In the fall of 2019, Strobing, a Long Island, N.Y. native, signed a lease at 800 W. Marshall St. in Carver, where she was planning to open Claudia’s Bake Shop. Then the pandemic hit.
“We were getting ready to build, we had permits in Carver,” she said. “Then everything shut down.”
Vegan bakery and deli to open in former Guitar Works space in Carytown

The sound of music in a former Carytown guitar shop will be replaced with the smell of vegan baked goods.
Minglewood Bake Shop recently signed a lease at 3337 W. Cary St., where it will occupy 1,400 square feet on the first floor of the building that for 40 years had been home to Guitar Works. The fully vegan bakery and deli plans to open in early 2021.
