Families are encouraged to join the Museum of International Folk Art for the next Virtual Family Mornings at Folk Art at 10 a.m., May 16. The online event features a grab-and-go art kit and access to a Zoom program that includes a story time and show-and-tell segment for children to share their art. The art kits are available for pick up the Friday and Saturday prior to the day of the event. The theme for the month of May is “All Together.” Register in advance here to receive the art kit, which will include instructions and supplies for the project. Milford Library Presents Jazz Concert via Zoom May 19 at 7pm
The Milford Public Library presents a special Zoom concert with New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett and Koko Bermejo (drums/keyboard) on Wednesday, May 19th at 7pm. The Boston Globe describes Bennett s music as a mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. Timeout New York chronicled Daniel Bennett s pioneering spirit during COVID-19, highlighting Bennett s leadership during the global pandemic. Sammy Stein, international editor for the Jazz Journalists Association, called Bennett, an outspoken voice of hope. The Daniel Bennett Group played over 100 outdoor concerts during the pandemic. Bennett continues to play a weekly livestream concert with Koko Bermejo on drums and keyboard. Florida Today called the weekly livestream a welcome treat for the global jazz community.

The History and Literary Arts department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center presents the latest online lecture in the series Perspectivas Modernas “Seeking Refuge: The Role of Expert Witnesses in Latin American Asylum Cases” via Zoom May 4. In this presentation, Kimberly Gauderman, a professor in the Department of History at the University of New Mexico, offers a description of the asylum system in the United States and the role of expert witnesses in cases for refugees from Latin America, focusing on the specific challenges faced by women and LGBTQ persons.
