April 19, 2021 There are many perceptions about Covid-19. We try to cope with it the best we can. The pandemic hit the world like a deadly hurricane, and countries, like ours, were not prepared with sufficient logistics, facilities, skills and expertise of the health force, among so many others. Our country, compared with fully developed nations, is struggling to make both ends meet. Sad to say, we don’t have enough experienced scientists, fully equipped hospitals in the barangays, doctors and nurses, and team players to cope with the surging expanse of Covid-19. My students see some intervening factors like divisive politics, economics and not sustainable community initiatives. They wish leaders will be more proactive than mere reactive.

Speaking up for women

In observance of the 58th Anniversary of the Enactment of the Right of Women to Vote, and the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development’s Department of Gender and Family Affairs, Zonta Clubs of The Bahamas, and Caribbean Women in Leadership, hosted a special sitting of the House of Assembly for Women in Parliament and presented a resolution to the Speaker.
