No fewer than nine persons were killed in Anambra State in different circumstances on Monday.
While two policemen and three others were killed during an attack on the Anambra Zonal Police Headquarters in Ukpo, Dunukfia Local Government Area of the state, four others were killed in cult-related violence.
The attack on the police headquarters happened around 4am.
A source said, “Some hoodlums invaded the zonal headquarters at Ukpo in the early hours of Monday, but our gallant men repelled the attack.
“In the process, the hoodlums killed two of our men, while our men gunned down three of their men, but they quickly carried their fallen men and zoomed off.

The federal government has ordered the police to step up operations to stop attacks on their formations in the South-east and other parts of the country.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Dingyadi, who gave the order, also commended police personnel for repelling an attack on the Zonal Police Headquarters, Zone 13, in Ukpo, Anambra State.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Kuryas Monday, is to lead a special operation aimed at tracing, identifying and arresting the attackers of the zonal command headquarters.
Besides the attack on the zonal command, the Divisional Police Headquarters, Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, was in the early hours of yesterday razed down by yet-to-be identified hoodlums.

Attacks on security formations in the South East continued yesterday as gunmen again attacked the Police headquaters in Anambra and a Police station in Abia.
Two Policemen and three other persons were killed when gunmen attacked the Zone 13 police headquarters at Ukpo, in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Similarly, hoodlums razed the Uzuakoli Police Division in Bende council area of Abia State.
