Fresh LMV passenger traffic from Srinagar to Jammu resumes on highway

SRINAGAR: Fresh Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) traffic carrying passengers only was resumed on Saturday on the national highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
On Friday only vehicles, stranded Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) between Nashree and Ramban were allowed to ply towards Srinagar.
The weather has improved and one-way fresh traffic was allowed on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, he said.
”We have allowed LMVs carrying passengers from Srinagar to Jammu”, he said adding that the vehicles had to cross Zig Qazigund between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs.

Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers are stranded on the highway, sources said.
There was a huge landslide at Mahar Ramban today disrupting traffic movement on the highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the Mahar, they said, adding that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has put into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway.
Work to clear the landslides on the road was going on and it will take few hours to resume traffic provided there are not landslides and shooting stones, sources said.

Despite rain traffic resumes on Srinagar-Jammu highway

SRINAGAR: Despite rain traffic was resumed on Thursday on Srinagar-Jammu national , the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, after remaining suspended for weekly maintenance on Wednesday.
Earlier, Since November last year Friday was for weekly maintenance of the highway which had now been changed to Wednesday.
Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will ply from both sides since morning while Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) from Udhampur, Jammu, from 1500 hrs, a traffic police official said today.
Commuters are advised to contact Traffic Control Unit (TCU) established at Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban before starting their journey in view of the inclement weather prediction issued by Metrological department for next few days, he said.
