Located in the northern mountain ranges of Hunan, the remote Zhangjiajie National Forest was known only to the Tujia, Miao and Bai minority groups for centuries. Today, with its towering karst spires, rich brown earth and lush forests, Zhangjiajie has become a striking and iconic Chinese landscape. Made a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1992, and immortalized by the film
Avatar, the park is a dramatic landscape of deep, forested canyons and enormous, isolated limestone peaks, each with their own miniature ecosystems akin to bonsai forests. This tour also takes in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, the world s longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge. Walk it if you dare!
Hereâs How To Visit This Actual Stairway To Heaven
Dec.14.2020
To the initiated, the 999 stairs that take one to the top of Tianmen Mountain, and on to Tianman Cave, are known as the Stairway To Heaven. To the uninitiated, those same 999 stairs were where we saw a Range Rover Sport traverse the 45-degree stairwell to the top back in 1998. No matter how you know it, it is one of the most spectacular views on earth.
Tianmen Mountain, The Stairway To Heaven
The Stairway To Heaven is located at the top of Tianmen Mountain, 24,500 feet above the city of Zhangjiajie in Chinaâs Hunan province. The 999 steps lead visitors to Tianmen Cave, which is the worldâs highest naturally formed arch, which is also known as the Gateway To Heaven. Here is where you will see the spectacular views and unique mountain formations that have attracted millions of visitors.
