The doctor could tell he was getting tired, his breathing was laborious, and he did not want to end up in hospital.”

The actor had already lived, according to those that knew him, many lives within his then 63 years. In his show, Zen Dog, he reflected on his history which included, among other things, drug addiction, a few marriages, rehab and a psych ward. The first series of Zen Dog, an ad-libbed production in which Innes told stories from his own life, came to an end when he had a heart attack and stroke on stage.
