It all began as a protest against president Viktor Yanukovychs refusal to sign a trade agreement to enter the European Union. It threatens civil war. A truce quickly broke down and renewed violence left at least 75 dead in kiev with parts of the capital city in flames. The European Union and the United States are putting diplomatic pressure on the ukrainian government, including the use of sanctions.
