Legally grown cannabis can be purchased in the Netherlands for the first time, as the first phase of a long-awaited government supported pilot program starts on Friday in Tilburg and Breda, the second and third largest cities in Noord-Brabant. In addition to cannabis grown by three approved organizations, the coffeeshops in both cities may continue to sell products which are tolerated, though not necessarily legal, for the time being.
Police in Amsterdam found a deceased person in a home in Zuidoost, who is suspected to have passed away three years ago. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning following a report to a neighborhood officer by a local resident, the police reported on Friday. Investigation shows that no crime was committed.

Most immigrants of European origin live in the border regions in the south of the Netherlands, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on Wednesday.
Many municipalities are not yet helping enough refugees find a home. In the second half of 2023, almost 23,000 asylum seekers whose applications got approved and received residency in the Netherlands had to be provided with a home. But with only one month until year’s end, almost 10,000 of these refugees are still waiting. That is evident from an analysis by the ANP of figures from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
