The Code Yellow weather warning issued for a large part of the country on Friday evening due to prolonged rain and thunder is no longer in force. Around midnight, Code Green was again in force across the country. The rain led to considerable traffic jams on Dutch roads early on Friday afternoon. At around 4 p.m., the ANWB counted over 140 traffic jams with a total length of over 800 kilometers on the A and N roads.
Since early Saturday morning, residents of several towns in Zeeland and West Brabant have been advised to boil tap water before use. The Zeeland Safety Region warned that small amounts of bacteria may have entered the water due to a leak in a water pipe in the Brabant village of Nieuw-Vossemeer.
The water systems in the Netherlands are under pressure and the Dutch will therefore have to deal with drinking water differently. Also politically. CEO Jelle Hannema of drinking water supplier Vitens announced this on Sunday on the television program WNL op Zondag. According to him, in some areas companies already have to be turned away if they want a connection to the water network.
