Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): Several civil society organisations in Nagaland have condemned the shooting incident at Nyasa in Mon district between the Assam Rifles (AR) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland led by Yung Aung (NSCN K-YA), where two AR jawans sustained injuries on Monday. The Nyasa Village Council and Nyasa Students’ Union strongly condemn “the barbaric and coward act of the self-styled insurgent factional group” in the heart of Nyasa village, “creating tense environment situation in the village on the eve of 75th Independence Day Celebration along with the rest of India”. ‘The village council, student union and the citizen of Nyasa strongly oppose and condemn this havoc act and will serve non-cooperation to any insurgent groups creating such like situation in and around the village in the near future,’ read the statement. Our Reporter Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): Two jawans of the Assam Rifles (AR) were injured in a gunfight with the cadres belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland led by Yung Aung (NSCN K-YA) at Nyasa village in Mon district on August 15 morning, hours before India’s Independence Day celebration begun in the state. According to an update from PRO (Def) Kohima, the Assam Rifles troop noticed suspicious movement on a jungle track between Zankham to Nyasa at around 2.35 am on Monday. Upon intercepted, the militants opened fire, injuring two soldiers. It said the AR troops “appropriately retaliated, causing severe casualties to the UG group”. The two injured soldiers have been evacuated to Jorhat Air Force Hospital for further treatment, it stated, adding that the local villagers helped the security forces in evacuation. Dimapur, Aug. 9 (EMN): Days ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung) and United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in a joint statement on Tuesday called for a boycott of the August 15 celebrations in the occupied-Western Southeast Asia (WESEA) region. The statement issued by MIP of NSCN/GPRN also stated that the boycott would be effective in the states of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. “India has no sovereign right whatsoever to unfurl her freedom flag in the WESEA region, including Indian-occupied Kashmir, while our land and people are reeling under her brutal military occupation for the last 75 years. Under the present circumstances it is politically and historically illegal and unjust for India to continue celebrating its pretentious Independence Day in our land,” read the statement.
