i want to hear from you, elysia but i m stuck on the word evolving. it can be a great thing but at the same time the country i m thinking of these hundreds of thousands of d.r.e.a.m.ers who are stuck in this hurricaerky j. one day it s this, one day it s this. evolution tends to go forward not backward. promises have been made before. this is a crisis of the president s invention and that if he wants to actually get this done, they had a framework that worked that he agreed to on a tuesday and changed his mind on a thursday. at the end of the day, you have a bipartisan group. gang of six has exploded to include many more members of the u.s. senate. everyone at that table seems to be working toward a pathway to citizenship for these young d.r.e.a.m.ers. the question comes down to is the house going to pass that legislation or are they instead going to lean into one of the proposals they have, which makes
some agreement, compromise that will allow the d.r.e.a.m.ers to stay in the united states. and i think it s important to note that 83% of americans say that they support the d.r.e.a.m.ers being able to stay in the united states. so it s not a matter of convincing the american people what s right. it s a matter of convincing other members of congress and in the house and the senate and also the president to listen to the american people and do the right thing. do you think your republican colleagues will go along with the president on this? it s hard to say. again, i think, you know, we just keep pressing. we keep making the case. and negotiating. and you know making the argument on behalf of the d.r.e.a.m.ers and the american people like i said 83% of them support the d.r.e.a.m.ers staying. but we have ner february 8th deadline. and if we make it all the way to march that means that about 800,000 young d.r.e.a.m.ers, daca recipients could be eligible for deportation
the house, can be shouted down in san francisco, it can happen to democrats anywhere. so, definitely a message to democratic lawmakers. jonathan capehart, let me bring you into this consideration very quickly right now. i think there was a sense in some circles that after that deal to have a deal between the democrats, nancy pelosi and chuck schumer, and the president of the united states on daca, on the deferred action for these young d.r.e.a.m.ers, that this may have been resolved, but this is evidence that we ve still got to weave still got a long way to go on this before they come to some resolution, frankly, on this. right. despite what was announced last week, it s not done until it s actually done. until there s a bill that s in the house and the senate and passings both chambers and gets to the president s desk, nothing is done. i admire all the d.r.e.a.m.ers out there energized and protesting, wherever they re protesting to ensure something gets done. but i think it s in
can play naive, and i ll play naive. we have these people in this country. grew up american, have american accents, let s make it nonprosecutable. why doesn t congress whiz it by and make it law? well, first of all let me say it s disheartening to see what the president did to these $800,000 young d.r.e.a.m.ers just two days after he said he loved so what are you going to do about it? what will bring this problem to a close? what will reenact in effect what obama did for the d.r.e.a.m.ers? congress, needs to stop playing political games with these young d.r.e.a.m.ers. we need to act like adults.
before it was issued can the policy be enacted by congress and should it be? the answer is yes. but the reason the d.r.e.a.m. act hasn t passed until now, is because from the beginning it was an amnesty act. that was the whole point of it. because when the d.r.e.a.m.ers a number of years ago tried to cut their own deal, they were cut off at the knees. there are mixed nals. the president reiterated yesterday he loves the d.r.e.a.m.ers, but in talking points distributed by homeland security, quote, this is an official document today. the department of homeland security urges daca recipients to use the time remaining to prel pair and arrange their departure from the united states. these 800,000 americans are
