Beef boycott flops in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, others

In Lagos, residents were seen buying beef, while sellers said there was nothing like boycott. At most of the markets visited by our correspondents, people went about their normal businesses without any boycott of beef. The chairman, United Butchers of Lagos, Lagos State Abattoir Complex, Oko-Oba, Agege, Abdullahi Ahmed, said the number of people patronising the abattoir increased yesterday, stressing that more people were still being expected. He disclosed that 500 cows were slaughtered at the abattoir on Friday as against the 200 that were slaughtered days ago, owing to the strike called by the AUFCDN. An average of 1,000 cows were slaughtered daily at the market before the food blockade.

In a statement made available to journalists, the President-General of the organization, Dr. Akande Babatunde warned Northern leaders of the consequences of inflammatory and hate speeches being uttered by them in reacting to the eviction order given to Fulani herdsmen living in the Ondo State government forest reserves and the order to all Fulani herdsmen to register with the state government within seven days.

The group gave the charge on Thursday during the 2021 Pan Yoruba Summit held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. Reports have it that the summit, with the theme ‘Yoruba Nation: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,’ was attended by eminent Yoruba personalities. Mr Oladosu Oladipupo, the YPM National Coordinator, said that a well-considered strategy for analysing the future was to correct the mistakes of the past and put the best foot forward in the national political arena.
