SMSS looks out to its displaced students
Teachers and volunteers at the SMSS have been working ‘round the clock’ to prepare relief packages for displaced student and their families.

There are twenty-five students of the St Martin’s Secondary School and their families, all from the Red Zone, who were evacuated as a result of the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano, which began on April 9.
Those students and their families are not forgotten.
In an interview with Mr. Yohance Gibson, Principal of the St. Martin’s Secondary School, THE VINCENTIAN learned that by February, 2021, with the possibility of an eruption looming large, the school’s counsellor, Mrs. Lucy Theobalds, had already contacted the twenty-one families living in the Red Zone, and developed an evacuation plan for each household. Further data revealed that four other families lived within the Orange Zone.
SMSS fulfills wider obligation
By: Gloriah• It really is heartening when you are able to provide those members of our school community with basic needs. Once you are shaping minds and helping with the development of people, you have an obligation to respond in this way!”
These were the sentiments expressed by Mr. Yohance Gibson, Principal of the St. Martin’s Secondary School (SMSS), as he spoke to THE VINCENTIAN about the school’s ongoing programme of providing care packages to needy families, from among the school population.
And Mr. Gibson was clear that with the current situation of health and volcanic hazards that the country has found itself facing, the support that the school has been extending to families before, had to be increased and widened.
