YMCA Invites You to Wear Black at End of Black History Month

February is Black History Month and the YMCA has recognized iconic individuals for their achievements each day. We still have a few more days to celebrate the event, and the Y wants to end the month in a big way. The Y is asking that everyone wear black to mark the occasion. In a Facebook post on Monday, February 22, the Y discussed the reasoning behind the movement. “The Y s African American Resource Network (AARN) cast a vision in 2020, as a response to the societal awakening to systemic racism, imploring all Ys to become anti-racist, multicultural organizations that intentionally lead and boldly model diverse and inclusive cultures that impact and strengthen the foundations of our communities.”

YMCA SouthCoast Launches New Food Distribution Program YMCA SouthCoast just launched a new program on Thursday, January 21. “Free Ready-Made Meals for Kids!” is an initiative that intends to provide meals at no cost to local children under the age of 18. “In coordination with the Shah Family Foundation and the Y of Greater Boston, the following YMCA Southcoast locations will be offering a new school food program that will supplement the current public school food programs: Fall River YMCA, New Bedford YMCA, and Wareham Gleason Family YMCA,” said Kris Caisse, Graphic Designer at YMCA Southcoast. “This hunger prevention program addressing the food gap and COVID-19 food insecurity is providing no-cost meals to youth ages 18 and under in Fall River, New Bedford, and Wareham Public Schools. These communities have been identified as having a higher risk for households experiencing food insecurity during the health crisis, and prepared meals will be offered for pickup at these Y
