Here’s a look at the year ahead and what’s new with North America’s premier open-wheel series: Varied, Challenging Schedule The season begins with the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by AmFirst, one of the many traditional events on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar, which makes a return after the 2020 pandemic year. A series of four races in three weekends will start the season, including the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday, April 25 and a doubleheader weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2 for the Genesys 300 and the XPEL 375. FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK The news that racing executive Beth Paretta is going to take a run at the 2021 Indy 500 with a women-led team brings a sense of déjà vu: Indeed Paretta has done this before. She previously headed Grace Autosport, attempting to qualify Katherine Legge for the 2016 Indianapolis 500. Paretta pulled the plug just a few weeks before the green flag that year. We got a hold of Paretta to find out how the 2021 Paretta Autosport effort came about and why this time things are going to be different. For one thing, the group plans to have 2010 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Simona De Silvestro drive the team’s Chevrolet-powered car this year. Also, this time none other than Roger Penske is involved.

By INDYCAR | Published: Jan 19, 2021 Paretta Autosport, a new NTT INDYCAR SERIES race team spearheaded by female automotive and motorsport executive Beth Paretta, has announced its entry for the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. 2010 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Simona De Silvestro has been announced as the driver for Paretta Autosport, which will utilize Chevrolet power and run the No. 16 for this year’s legendary “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” The 32-year-old from Switzerland is a veteran of five Indianapolis 500 starts. The team is an extension of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s “Race for Equality & Change” announced last July. Team Penske will provide technical support to Paretta Autosport in assisting in the preparation for competing in the race Sunday, May 30.

Paretta Autosport will be spearheaded by automotive and motorsport executive Beth Paretta with 2010 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Simona De Silvestro back in the cockpit for what is billed as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”. The goal is far bigger than a one-off, with plans to have an all-women outfit eventually running full-time in the IndyCar Series.
