TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State track and field team will head to Clemson, S.C. on Friday for the Clemson Opener. Friday's meet will be the earliest start of the season since the 2018-19 season when they began the year on Dec. 1 at the Colyear-Danville BU Opener in Boston, Mass. Field events will begin at 10 a.m. with running events slated to start at 11:40 a.m. Friday's 17-team field will be highlighted by FSU and their in-state rival Florida as the top two teams in the field. The Noles will also be joined by ACC counterparts Clemson and Georgia Tech as well as South Carolina. Previewing the Noles FSU enters the 2021-22 season with a load of experience, as they return a combined 18 (11 men, 7 women) All-ACC indoor athletes from last season. which is second in the conference. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State senior Yasmine Abbes has qualified for the U20 European Cross Country Championships and will be representing The Netherlands on Dec. 12 in Dublin, Ireland. It meant a lot to me to have qualified. After not racing for six months because of injury, I couldn't have imagined a better comeback than this. Hard work really paid off, Abbes said. This will be the third time Abbes has been a part of the European Championships, as she competed in the U18 in 2018 and the U20 in 2019. Abbes represents the AV Club and qualified for the championship on Sunday with a time of 14.55.0 in the 4.3k in her first race back from injury. As a Seminole, Abbes was a part of the DMR team that broke the school record at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 10:57.24. The relay team finished third at the NCAA Championships. Nijmegen, Netherlands, native earned All-ACC and All-America honors in the 2021 indoor season was also recognized as the ACC Freshman of the
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team concluded their regular season competition at the UNF Invitational on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. The final day was highlighted by multiple personal best performances as well as 10 top-five finishes.
“Edidiong Odiong had a great meet and is really emerging as a National scoring threat,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “Jayla Kirkland has been doing a great job of showing her the way the last two meets. Maudie Skyring continues to lead our distance ladies, and the discus trio threw fantastic. On the men’s side our older guys really set the tone. Isaac Grimes, Fabian Edoki, Jacore Irving, Adriaan Wildschutt, Milton Ingraham, DaeQwan Butler, Jo’Vaughn Martin and others all competed like National players.”
The women’s sprinters battled in the 100 meters to overcome a broken clock call back after 60 meters. FSU embraced the adversity and all three women went on to race personal best times. Jayla Kirkla
April 13, 2021 Cunningham Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year Among 12 All-ACC Academic Picks
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Florida State Track and Field senior Trey Cunningham has been named ACC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday. Cunningham is joined by 11 other Seminoles recognized as All-ACC Academic honorees.
Cunningham, who was also named the ACC Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020, posted a 3.938 grade point average during the most recent fall semester. The ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient majors in public relations and was named to the Dean’s List in both the spring and fall of 2020.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Florida State Track and Field team completed day one of the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Seminoles recorded three lifetime bests, four season bests, two heat winners, two new school records and the men earned 17 big points putting them in 3
rd place heading into the final day.
“The men had a fantastic day one at indoor nationals,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “The men are well positioned for a Top 5 finish tomorrow. That would be a really great result for this team considering we’re missing our Ace, Kasaun James, due to injury. I’m really proud of these guys. Out of 7 guys, only Trey has competed at Indoor Nationals before. That’s impressive.”
