An anonymous donation of $22 million has been made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
The massive donation was announced Wednesday during a livestream.
Managing Director of the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, Paulette Sweeney-Goodwin, talked about what the donation will mean for the future of the community.
“This will have ramifications for generations,” said Sweeney-Goodwin. “It certainly means that we can do just that much more to support and enhance healthcare in our community.”
The Foundation has invested the donation. Up to 5 per cent of the initial donation, amounting to at least $1,000,000 annually, will be allocated from the income it generates.

The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation announced a gift of $22 million Wednesday morning. They say the money will go towards equipment and doctor recruitment. It’s of the magnitude that you rarely, if ever experience, said Dr. Harold Cook of the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation. The donation is considered to be the largest ever given to a charitable organization in Atlantic Canada and, perhaps surprisingly, the individual wants to remain anonymous.
