Burlington, IA- The Des Moines/Henry County Labor Alliance has announced their Workers Memorial Celebration will take place Friday, April 28th. The Hawk Eye reports that on April 28th, the labor movement observes Workers Memorial Day to remember those who were killed or injured on the job the previous year. This year's celebration will take place at 4 PM Friday at the IBEW Local 13 hall 1205 N. Central Ave. The celebration is dedicated to Pearson Franklin and Andrew Whitcomb, who were both killed while working on the Great River Bridge in October, 2022. The Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO List of Deceased Workers also recognizes Rickey Kammerer, who was killed on June 21st, 2022 in the Yarmouth Elevator Collapse.
