LOUDON, Tenn. – It will be a repeat of the District 6-AA tournament finals when the Region 3-AA is decided Thursday night.
Tyner nipped Howard 38-36 in the district finals with a last-second shot and these two proud progams will meet at Tyner again after both advanced with wins in the region semis Tuesday night.
Tyner eliminated Red Bank by a 62-47 margin while Howard rallied for a 71-62 victory over the District 5-AA champion Loudon Redskins.

James Talley wasn’t taking any chances.
The spirited Howard basketball coach knows how tough it is to beat the same team three times in the same season, so he spent most of the day on Saturday reminding his Hustlin’ Tigers about that fact and that they needed to stay focused on the job at hand.
Talley’s message must have hit home because Howard was able to beat the Red Bank Lions for the third time, Saturday’s final at Henry Bowles Gymnasium by a 59-51 margin.

The third quarter belonged to Kerrick Thorne, whose 6’7 frame was everywhere and did everything for a Howard Hustlin’ Tigers squad that blew open what was a close game against the visiting Brainerd Panthers. The 23-20 halftime lead became a 61-47 win because of his interior scoring, passing, and defense in the second half.
Coming out of the locker room, Howard’s Xavier Fisher drove into the middle, and dumped off a pass to Thorne, who softly feathered it in. After helping force a turnover, Thorne drove the ball from the perimeter, threw the ball off the backboard, caught the rebound, and tipped in two more. Brainerd’s coach called a quick timeout to slow the bleeding, but the deficit only grew after that.
