Explosion at Brunswick Waterfront

May 3, 2021 An explosion at the waterfront has broken out into a fire. Felt by people several blocks away, the explosion took place in Logistec building 225 on Newcastle St. The same building was the site of the spontaneous combustion of wood pellets in 2017 and was a replacement building for one destroyed by a fire in 2016. As of this writing there are no reports of fatalities or injuries. We will update as more becomes known.  

Federal Hate Crimes Indictment in Arbery Case

Apr 28, 2021 From The Islander: The lead prosecutor in the case of the February 2020 shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery Jesse Evans has stepped down. Evans has left the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office where he served as deputy chief assistant district attorney. Instead Cobb County Assistant District Attorney Linda Dunikoski will prosecute the case against 35 year old Travis McMichael, 65 year old Gregory McMichael, and 51 year old William “Roddie” Bryan. The three men are accused of murder, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, along with other charges in the death of Arbery. Today the Justice Department indicted the three men on federal hate crime charges including one count of interference with civil rights and attempted kidnapping. The McMichaels are also charged with using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

Stabbing at Brunswick High | WYNR 102 5

Update 4:20pm The school system has issued a press release: Brunswick, Ga. – An investigation is underway at Brunswick High School in response to a student who was stabbed during an altercation with another student in the school’s courtyard. The student is responsive but has been airlifted to a Jacksonville hospital to be treated for injuries. The accused student has been taken into custody and is now facing school and criminal charges. No other students or staff members were harmed. A Code Blue was called due to the emergency situation with the student but has since been lifted. We’ve received word that a fight at Brunswick High has resulted in one of the participants being stabbed. The victim is being sent to Jacksonville for treatment. More as this develops. Schools Issue Statement About GMS Teacher Rumors

Apr 24, 2021 From Glynn County Schools: There are rumors circulating on social media about an incident that occurred at one of our schools. We would like to address them. Late last week, it was brought to our attention that a teacher at Glynn Middle was accused of mishandling a disciplinary issue with a student. An investigation has been launched and the accused teacher has been removed from the classroom pending the results. At this time this is a personnel matter and will be dealt with accordingly.

From Glynn County Police: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION G21-21195 On April 17 2021 about 0215 hours, the Glynn County Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Cypress Mill Road and Golden Isles Parkway. Patrol officers responding to the area located an unresponsive victim on the edge of the roadway. The victim appeared to have only a small laceration to the head at initial contact. Glynn County Fire Rescue was dispatched and transported the victim to Southeast Georgia Health Systems where life saving measures were attempted. During treatment it was determined the victim had suffered a single gunshot on the upper torso. Unfortunately, the victim passed away as a result of their injury. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Javier Cordova of Brunswick, GA.
