what president biden has called playing politics with human beings, former governor ron desantis, promised these flights are only the beginning. so they ve been in texas identifying people trying to come to florida and then offering them free transportation to sanctuary jurisdictions, and so they went from texas to florida to martha s vineyard. it was a flight. there s also going to be buses and there ll likely be more flights. but i ll tell you this, the legislature gave me $12 million. we re going to spend every penny of that to make sure we re protecting the people of the state of florida. governor ron desantis along with the governor of texas are transporting migrants to well-known liberal enclaves. critics say they re being used as props. the governors and their supporters say it s a protest of what is an inadequate federal response. for more on the politics of this debate in a moment. cnn s miguel marquez has been on martha s vineyard and has their story. reporter
look, if you thought that the backlash coming from martha s vineyard would lead to an apology from a florida governor, you probably haven t been paying attention. no, the governor behind the surprise delivery did not apologize. he s doubling down, as is texas governor greg abbott, after he bussed dozens of migrants to vice president harris home in washington, d.c., all to protest president biden s immigration policies, or frankly what they criticize as the lack thereof any kind of policy. now, both are further defending their actions tonight, as the migrants that were flown to martha s vineyard two days ago unexpectedly were transported yet again, this time taken voluntarily to joint base camp cape cod where approximately 50 are being offered temporary shelter. this is in a word, temporary. 125 national guard members are being activated to assist in the relief efforts, and in a moment you re going to hear from two immigration relief lawyers helping them through this confusin
there could be more classified documents after the national archives already retrieved 15 boxes. so, the fbi was reportedly tipped off by someone who led them to execute the search warrant. attorney general merrick garland faces increasing pressure to say something publicly about why the fbi conducted the search. the calls are not just coming from outside the justice department. cnn has learned some officials within the doj believe the department should provide a public statement. they argue internally the silence is harmful to the department and the public s interest. that s in part because donald trump and his allies have filled the void with angry speculative rhetoric. to that point, the ex-president puts out baseless accusations today that the fbi, quote, planted incriminating material before searching his residence, trying to cast this as some sort of conspiracy against him. trump or his team have a copy of the search warrant. normally it does list the items to be seized
after he became the first current or former president ever to be hit with a search warrant. and just hours after becoming the first ever to invoke his fifth amendment right against self-incrimination, which is a pillar of civil liberties, but which he used to say only mobsters do, until he took the fifth and saying what only mobsters say when ever they re searched, in this case suggesting without anything at all to back it up, that federal agents planted evidence when they searched mar-a-lago on monday, which then quickly became a republican talking point, or in the case of lindsey graham, senator graham, who sits on the judiciary committee and who clearly should know better, just another toxic idea to smile and not along with. we know they doctor evidence. we know they plant evidence. sure. we know they hide evidence. we know they lie. we know they leak. i mean this is not anything new. this has been this has been years they ve been doing this. we can t just say, oh,
range of colleagues have been working on this story all day and have learned the justice department has subpoenaed more than 30 people, people in the former president s orbit. people like bill steppian, donald trump s former campaign manager, dan scavino the former trump chief of staff. these are wide ranging subpoenas seeking things that have to do with the save america pact, donald trump s fundraising and political vehicle, information related to the fake elector spot, any information handed over to the january 6 committee, a number of them seeking documents some also seeking testimony. we also learned in the new york times tonight that investigators appear to have gone another step further with some witnesses including boris epstein and mike roman the new york times reporting both men had phones seized. cnn has not independently confirmed this. it is a sign the justice department s investigation is intensifying particularly as they are about to head into the quiet peri
