Not ruling out an expert prediction that Bengaluru alone may report 6,500 COVID cases per day by the middle of this month if control measures are not strictly followed, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Monday sought public cooperation to keep the situation under control. Technical advisory committee in their report has said till May end.till May-end we have to take things seriously and together fight it (COVID), without the cooperation from the public, the government alone cannot do anything, Sudhakar said. Speaking to reporters here, he said, saving lives was important and the government was committed to it. An expert from the technical advisory committee has said that there are chances of Bengaluru alone reporting nearly 6,500 cases per day by April 20, we have already reached 3,500, we have to see, he said, adding that, by taking stricter measures we cannot control it, if not it cannot be ruled out.
Telangana s daily Covid-19 count climbed to 1,321 as the surge continued in parts of the state, pushing the cumulative tally to 3,12,140 on Sunday. Five more deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, which increased the total toll to 1,717. The spike in cases continued in several districts. The daily count in Hyderabad crossed 300-mark to reach 320. Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts bordering the state capital were the other worst-hit districts with 144 and 121 cases respectively. Nizamabad recorded 96 cases followed by Nirmal (64), Sangareddy (49), Jagtiyal (46), Warangal Urban (43), Karimnagar (41), Rajanna Sircilla (35), Adilabad (30) and Mahaboobnagar (30). The total number of active jumped to 7,923, including 3,866 who are in home/institutional isolation.
As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain informed that the number of beds in private hospitals has been increased from 15 per cent to 25 per cent. With 87,505 testings, we are testing five times higher than other states. Delhi s positivity rate stands at 4.11 per cent. Maharashtra and Punjab are the two worst hit states in terms of their share in the total number of new cases and fatalities across the country in the last fortnight, according to official documents. The two states also top the charts among states or UTs that have crossed their ever-reported peaks for new cases and are followed by Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat in the top-five, shows a presentation made by the Union Health Ministry during the last review meeting held by the Cabinet Secretary with all states and union territories. The growth rate of last seven days for daily new cases till March 23 in Maharashtra was 3.6 per cent and in Punjab it was 3.2 per cent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting senior civil servants in Delhi to review rising Covid-19 cases in the country and the vaccination campaign, multiple reports said on Sunday. The cabinet secretary, the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, the health secretary, and Dr Vinod Paul, a NITI Aayog member, were among officials attending the high-level meeting , according to NDTV.com and news agency ANI.
