WOOSTER Wayne County plans to send out a weekly message to confirm residents who are registered for the vaccine through the Health Department.
The initial launch of the notification system on Monday went a little awry when people already vaccinated or scheduled to be vaccinated received the message.
The health department sent a second message to clarify, but the bottom line is, If they got the first call, they’re on the list, said Nick Cascarelli, the Wayne County health commissioner. We apologize for any confusion, Cascarelli said.
Ohioans 65 years and older became eligible to receive the vaccine on Monday. Many of them will still have to wait to get their first shot due to a limited supply. Gov. Mike DeWine expects to hold at 65 until the most vulnerable are vaccinated.
Moving into Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, health commissioners and vaccine providers caution not everyone will be vaccinated as soon as they become eligible due to a lack of vaccine shipments. Phase 1B addresses the most vulnerable populations, starting with people ages 80 and older the week of Jan. 18; ages 75 and older and those with severe congenital, developmental or early-onset medical disorders the week of Jan. 25; ages 70 and older the week of Feb. 1; and those ages 65 and older the week of Feb. 8.
