Moving into Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, health commissioners and vaccine providers caution not everyone will be vaccinated as soon as they become eligible due to a lack of vaccine shipments.
"We're committed to everyone being vaccinated, but it would be irresponsible to promise that today or in the near future," said Nick Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. "I feel for a lot of this community. ... It's a supply and demand issue and the demand far exceeds the supply."
Phase 1B addresses the most vulnerable populations, starting with people ages 80 and older the week of Jan. 18; ages 75 and older and those with severe congenital, developmental or early-onset medical disorders the week of Jan. 25; ages 70 and older the week of Feb. 1; and those ages 65 and older the week of Feb. 8.
