Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP-led Centre of introducing the women s reservation bill as an election gimmick and stated that it will not be implemented before 2039 due to the inclusion of riders such as delimitation and population census. While the AAP supports the bill, Singh called it a "jumla" and questioned the government s intentions.
Stressing that the Modi government has taken several historic steps for the betterment of OBCs, Patel said, "As an ally of the ruling party, I am confident that the prime minister must be thinking about protecting the rights of women of backward classes and will surely do something for them."
"Rajiv Gandhi s dream is only half fulfilled. It will be fulfilled with the passage of this bill. The Congress supports this bill. We will be happy with the passage of this bill but we also have a concern. I want to ask a question. For the last 13 years, Indian women have been waiting for their political responsibilities, and now they are being asked to wait for a few more years two years, four years, six years, eight years," the former Congress chief said.
Pilot also questioned the need to change the women s reservation bill that was passed by the Rajya Sabha during the UPA tenure in 2010. He said if the BJP-led Centre had a clear intention, it could have passed the UPA-era bill. There have been several efforts to introduce the women s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies since 1996. The last such attempt was made in 2010 when the Rajya Sabha passed the bill but it could not be passed in the Lok Sabha.
