Firefighters spent the day and evening busy fighting flames all across the bay area. A vigil here in richmond to honor murdered soldier Vanessa Guillen, and to fight back against Sexual Violence in the military. Confusion over restrictions and reopening plans. After a long weekend, bay area firefighters just are not getting a break tonight. Theyre already dealing with two fires in the south bay, and we saw multiple fires break out this afternoon. Some were smallhi oers raced dangerously close to homes and forced people to grab what they could and evacuate just in case. We counted at least eight fires today, and some are still going, including one in fairfield. Thats where
But i want to go off and show you what it looks like on the hillside. These are lights that had just been turned on in the last five minutes or so. You could see those crews up on the hillside, closely monitoring this situation as i speak to make sure hot spots dont spark up. Flames shooting into the air in fairfield on monday. One of many fires to burn across the area. I thought the house was going to burn down. Reporter so did many others, as strong winds fueled these flames. Got very close. You can see the flames were literally in their backyard. As i am talking to them, i see the flames come over the top of the hill. Reporter chris engle turning on the sprinklers and life. In fairfield, 30 homes were evacuated and it was just one of many spots where fire put people and their homes in in rodeo, an frightening situation. Id like to adjourn today todays Board Meeting by Geraldine Mary crowdley, who was a one woman army for the neighbourhoods of the Northeast Corner of the city, but the city at large. She passed away early this morning in the style that she should pass away, listening to Frank Sinatra and watching monday night football last night. Many of you knew here. Her. She originally hailed from chappaque, new york, and moved here at the age of 25. She would have turned 85 this friday, the 13th, which she thought was very lucky. A third of a century ago, she actually saw somebody on tv from the Telegraph Hill dwellers, and decided to join that organization, which she ended up serving as president four times, and cajoled me not only into joining, and later on cajoled me into running her and tom cajoled me against my will to run for supervisor almost 20 years ago. She would come and pick me up at 6 30 in the morning and drive me to bus stops and all of the rest of it. Her deep, dark secret was that s
