PERKINSTON, Miss. (WLOX) - Some Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students will start their spring semester with a brand new place to call home.
Thursday, school leaders officially opened a new, 57,331-square-foot residence hall at the Perkinston campus, which can house up to 206 students. Administrators said the $15 million project was funded by county district supervisors from Harrison, Stone, Jackson and George counties.
As soon as the ribbon was cut, eager student began moving in. Resident Assistant Nejai Spencer was excited to move in after feeling stuck in her house due to COVID-19. She’s looking forward to enjoying time away from home and with her peers, instead.

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - If you drive Highway 11 in Pearl River County, stay alert on Monday, January 4, 2021. Instead of driving on the west side of the road, Picayune Police will be directing traffic over to the east side of the highway.
That’s because the Mississippi Department of Transportation is shifting its construction zone to the west side of the roadway beginning Monday. The shift is part of the ongoing $15 million highway reconstruction project from Cayten Street to Lakeshore Drive through Picayune.
