Margaret Greenwood MP with volunteer and GP Dr Henry Aldwinckle at Woodchurch Leisure Centre. A team of health staff and volunteers that has vaccinated more than 37,000 people against coronavirus at Woodchurch Leisure Centre has been praised by the local MP. Margaret Greenwood visited the venue to meet the team delivering the Healthier West Wirral Primary Care Network Covid-19 vaccination programme. Over 37,000 people have been vaccinated at the centre so far, with 93% of those eligible in priority groups 1-9 having taken up the offer. This includes people over 50 and those with health conditions that put them at higher risk of serious illness from Covid-19.
Warren medical centre Miriam Medical Centre is understood to also be part of the hub, which is expected to administer 975 vaccine doses in two and a half days. Dr Nikki Kanani, practising GP and NHS Director of Primary Care, said: “GPs, nurses, pharmacists and other primary care staff are eager to play their part in protecting people against coronavirus. “This is the greatest vaccination programme ever undertaken by the NHS and, to help vaccinate people safely we will be working with local communities to deliver it in convenient and familiar settings. “As a GP I am proud to be part of this huge national effort to protect our patients against the virus and I would urge the public to come forward when they are called up for the vaccine.”
