soon. better weather today, new york, philadelphia, d.c., the wind component has really backed off. still some showers around. the real issue is going to be in southern new england, the boston het tro area and count on delays at logan international. yesterday they were diverting planes into logan today it s probably going to be the other way around because the airports for the south will have less wind and less of an issue trying to get planes in and out. i ve spent a lot of time on the cape and they have a lot of issues with wind normally. can you put it into some kind of perspective for us how bad is it compared to what they re used to some. well, we re talking about tropical storm force sustained winds. they ve had gusts out there, 50 to 55 miles per hour. it s a pretty good blow out there right now. and again, with the saturated ground like we ve seen, you know, it s impossible to say exactly how many people are without power but the number we re throwing around this morning is
information. no, sir. we don t have that information. can you tell the number of [ inaudible ]. on our numbers? the challenges are happening toe fast in and around the rain bands it s hard to keep track. if i asked to report how many they were doing, it takes away from the rescues. we ll collect that information at the end of the evening. can you put this on a scale how this disaster compares to previously ones bottle nationally and then in texas? one of the worse? the worst? as it being a category 4 hurricane, it s the strongest storm texas has had since 1961, and when you consider the larger population now than what we had back then, obviously, this is a very large disaster. then krt fact of the size of it. ranging all the way from corpus christi to houston and parts north of houston. and you have not only the wind
areas. some small ports, no big cities in the way. the storm surge of 12 feet has happened or is happening. but we haven t heard a lot of ports about it. because it hasn t been populated areas. we ll find that out tomorrow. then the wind component of it will slowly weaken to tomorrow. by the time we get to saturday night, it s all about the rainfall. there s the rainfall map behind us here. this is the one that the people from our federal government that do our forecasting say they ve never made a forecast like this before. they ve never made a forecast calling for upward isolated totals of 40 inches of rain. right. add an extra color there, think. they did. on their color table. we ll find out. not everybody in that pink color will get 20 inches of rain, but somebody will get 30 to 40. you said to draw a triangle. maybe as far west as
north and east or heads off to the north and east on the backside of it, we re going to get a northwesterly flow. any westerly wind component is what i m looking here because it will push anything to the east. again, these are surface winds. we d have to have a breach of the core in that power plant to begin to talk about anything into the upper levels of the atmosphere, we re nowhere near there. continuing coverage after the break.
