DIGNITARIES from Swindon and Wiltshire signed a commitment to supporting armed forces personnel and their families around the borough. Representatives from the council, army, health bodies and education gathered in the rose garden outside the local authority s Euclid Street offices to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. Mayor Garry Perkins introduced and closed the short ceremony while dressed in full mayoral garb. He said: This is not just a piece of paper, it s a way of showing respect for our armed forces. It s a very important day for Swindon, Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sarah Troughton said: Swindon has a long track record with the armed forces, going back to 1914 when 10 blasts from the Swindon Works hooter signalled the start of the war.

Danny Kruger, Philip Whitehead and Michelle Donelan A virtual round-table has been held to address the anxieties surrounding topics such as the coronavirus pandemic and Brexit. Chippenham MPMichelle Donelan, MP for Devizes Danny Kruger and Wiltshire Council leader Philip Whitehead recently took part with businesses from across the county in the first in a series of meetings organised by the South West’s largest and most influential business group, Business West. More than 50 local businesses logged on to get answers to their questions. Ian Larrard, director of the Swindon and Wiltshire Initiative at Business West said: “In Universities Minister Michelle Donelan, Devizes MP Danny Kruger and Cllr Philip Whitehead local businesses have true allies both locally and in Westminster to advocate on their behalf.
