Non-members of Walpole Island First Nation will soon require a pleasure craft licence to access the bays and channels within the territory.
The purpose of implementing the licence – taking effect June 1 – is to “ensure the protection of sensitive ecological areas such as fish habitat and to recover costs of enforcement and administration,” the First Nation stated in a release.

The $100 annual licence will be available to purchase in person at the Walpole Island governance building (117 Tahgahoning Rd.) and also at the following locations: Chematogan Camp, Willow Beach Post, Gary’s Taxidermy & Tanning, and Bkejwanong Gas & Convenience.
