As of June 1, non-members of Walpole Island First Nation will require pleasure craft licences to access the bays and channels of the First Nation’s territory.
The purpose of the new requirement is to ensure the protection of sensitive ecological areas, including fish habitat, and to recover enforcement and administrative costs, the First Nation said in a news release.

The $100 annual licences will be available by calling 519-627-1481, emailing finance@wifn.org, or in-person via the Walpole Island governance building at 117 Tahgohoning Rd., as well as at Chematogan Camp, Willow Beach Post, Gary’s Taxidermy & Tanning and Bkejwanong Gas & Convenience, officials said.
