WASHINGTON The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to pay New York $934 million to cover the projected statewide costs of administering the COVID-19 vaccine.
On Tuesday, FEMA advanced half the funds, $467 million, to New York, recognizing the state has been hard-hit by the virus and is struggling financially. The money will pay for transportation, storage, medical staff, personal protective equipment and public awareness campaigns associated with vaccine distribution.

TROY A Rensselaer County grand jury indicted a city man for second-degree murder in the Jan. 15 strangulation death of his wife, according to papers filed with the court clerk.
Taquan L. Evans, 35, was indicted in the death of Georlasia B. Evans near their residence on 104th St. between 12 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. Jan. 15. Police learned of the alleged killing when Georlasia B. Evans body was left in a vehicle outside the entrance to Samaritan Hospital.

Pratt & Whitney announced its first major jet engine order since the start of the pandemic, with Frontier Airlines ordering engines for 134 aircraft en route from Airbus.
It is Denver-based Frontier Airlines’ first-ever purchase from Pratt & Whitney, which has its headquarters in East Hartford as a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies. The company is one of Connecticut’s largest employers with more than 11,000 workers at last report, including at a major facility in Middletown.
