Dorothy Forchuk loved to read and filled every room in her home with historical fiction, thrillers, biographies and romance novels.

Mrs. Forchuk, who was 85 when she died on Dec. 18, instilled a love of reading in her daughters. So, her younger child, Marsha Skrypuch, who would go on to become an award-winning children’s book author, said she felt like a failure when she brought home one of many “terrible” elementary school report cards. Skrypuch is dyslexic but not much was known about the learning disorder back in the mid-1960s.
