UK Announces 1st Woman Director of Wildcat Marching Band

Shayna Stahl will be the first woman director of UK Athletic Bands. LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 7, 2021)   The University of Kentucky welcomes Shayna Stahl as director of Athletic Bands and assistant director of Bands in the School of Music. Stahl will become the first woman to serve as the director of the Wildcat Marching Band. Stahl will also serve as director of the UK Pep Bands and as the conductor of the UK Concert Band.  “I am very pleased that Dr. Stahl will be joining us at the UK School of Music this summer,” said Stan Pelkey, director of the UK School of Music. “Dr. Stahl is an experienced director of athletic bands who has worked with Division I athletic bands for the past 15 years. She will be ready from her first day on campus to guide the Wildcat Marching Band toward a successful fall season.

UK to Award Honorary Degrees at May 2021 Commencement Ceremonies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 6, 2021)   The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved honorary degrees for four citizens who have distinguished themselves in their careers and community service. The recipients are W. Harry Clarke, F. Joseph Halcomb III, Deirdre Lyons and Carl F. Pollard.  Clarke, Halcomb and Lyons will receive their honorary doctorates at the UK May 2021 Commencement Ceremonies next week. Pollard, who is unable to attend next week s ceremonies, will be honored at a later date. Honorary degrees will be presented at the following ceremonies: W. Harry Clarke: noon Friday, May 14 F. Joseph Halcomb: 6 p.m. Friday, May 14 Deirdre Lyons: noon Sunday, May 16
